Product Overview

GCS Clay (Organophilic Clay) is a chemically modified bentonite designed for use in oil-based and synthetic-based drilling fluid (OBM/SBM) systems to control rheology, build viscosity, and maintain suspension of solids. Unlike conventional bentonite, which is water-wet, organophilic clay is treated with organic compounds to make it dispersible in non-aqueous fluids, allowing it to function effectively in oil-based environments.

When properly dispersed and activated, it forms a stable three-dimensional structure within the fluid, providing the required gel strength to suspend weighting materials such as barite and drilled solids during static conditions. This ensures consistent fluid behavior, prevents settling (barite sag), and supports efficient hole cleaning during circulation.
